Why Your Sofa Takes Fourteen Weeks

Most good furniture is made after you order it

The sofa on the showroom floor is a sample. Yours gets built once the order comes in: frame first, then the fabric is cut and the piece is upholstered. McGee & Co., for example, quotes six to sixteen weeks for custom pieces, plus two to four weeks for delivery once they ship. Imported and fully custom pieces can take longer.

Freight, receiving, and the last fifty feet

Large pieces usually ship freight to a receiving warehouse, where they’re checked, stored, and then delivered and placed by a white-glove team. With some trade vendors we add about three weeks of transit on top of their stated production time, just to be safe.

Damage found at receiving is easy to sort out. Damage found after the crate is already in your living room is a much bigger headache.

Tariffs are part of the price now

Since late 2025, imported upholstered wood furniture, kitchen cabinets, and vanities carry a 25 percent Section 232 tariff. Scheduled increases to 30 percent on upholstery and 50 percent on cabinets and vanities were pushed back to January 1, 2027. Prices and availability can move between a quote and an order, so we reconfirm pricing before anything is placed.

How we plan around it

We order in sequence: the long-lead pieces like sofas, dining tables, and beds go first, and lamps and accessories go last. You approve every item before it’s ordered, so nothing is bought on a guess. We track each order, receive and inspect everything, and install in one go, so the house comes together all at once instead of one box at a time.
